The Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Civic Youth Ensembles (CYE) Program is searching for qualified candidates to serve as CYE Mentors for the 2019-2020 season. CYE Mentors will assist CYE by leading sectionals, assisting with musician part assignments, working directly with ensemble directors, and performing with ensemble during CYE’s annual concerts. CYE Mentors are provided a monthly stipend and the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in teaching and performance to help grow their resumes as they pursue careers in music. 

To qualify for a CYE Mentor position, you must be enrolled in / recently graduated from a university music program with the completion of at least four semesters. Those interested should submit all materials by 5:00pm on Friday, August 2, 2019.  

Positions are available for all string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Positions are also available to assist with our jazz ensembles. Mentors must be available for all rehearsals and concerts as outlined in their individual schedules. CYE Classical Mentors will report for a predetermined shift between the hours of 8:30am and 4:00pm on Saturdays. CYE Jazz Mentors will report 6:00 to 9:00pm every Monday. All rehearsals occur at the Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center in downtown Detroit. Mentors are responsible for their own transportation to and from all services. Parking passes will be provided for the season. 

DSO Staff will contact selected applicants for an interview on either Thursday, August 15, or Friday, August 16, 2019. Those hired as mentors will be required to attend a CYE Mentor Orientation on Wednesday, September 4, or Thursday, September 5, 2019 (Time TBD). The first day of CYE Classical Rehearsals will be Saturday, September 7, 2019, with CYE Jazz rehearsals starting on Monday, September 16, 2019. Click on the button below to apply
