Nelson Rodriguez-Parada is from Tampa, Florida and holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, and a Masters Degree in Music Education String Pedagogy from the Hartt School of Music at Hartford University in West Hartford, Connecticut. After completing his degrees, Nelson served as the Director of Orchestras and Choirs at Spoto High School in Riverview, Florida and as Music Director of the Tampa Music Society Orchestra. Nelson is currently the General Manager of Training Programs at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra where he manages the Civic Youth Ensembles and Detroit Community Ensembles. This is Nelson’s third season as Music Director for the DCO.
Damien Crutcher is a native Detroiter and a graduate of Cass Technical High School. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Michigan State University, and a Masters in Conducting from The University of Michigan. After graduating from The University of Michigan, Damien served as Director of Bands and Orchestra at Southfield-Lathrup High School. Many of his students from Southfield Lathrup are currently professional musicians, music teachers and artists across the country He is currently the co-founder and CEO of Crescendo Detroit and Artistic Director and Conductor for the Farmington Community Band and is a frequent guest conductor and clinician throughout Michigan. This is Damien’s second season as music director for the DCCB.
